History of Cemetery St. Joseph Cemetery was kept by the local Roman Catholic churches in Hancock. In the 1970's it was decided since the area churches were consolidated into one parish, to build a new church. The site chosen was over the St. Joseph Cemetery after deliberation by the parish, the diocese and contacting the proper government authorities. The families of those buried were contacted ahead of time to let them know of the plans and let them remove their family to different area cemeteries. The remaining grave markers were then removed after a recording was done and buried in a trench at the site of the present day church. The new church was started in 1975 and took in St. Ann, St. Joseph, and St. Joseph-St. Patrick parish churches at various times.
