The Gazette newspaper of Houghton, Michigan appears to have started as a Weekly, then progressed to a Daily. The films from which the following items were extracted do not contain every issue and have no explanation as to why some issues are missing.
The purpose of these extractions is to show the names of people in the Houghton area at that particular date. Genealogists will be the main group to profit from this work; however, readers in general will find it fascinating to follow the development of the area. Not every item was extracted.
The films were obtained from the Michigan State Library. If a reader wants to see more of the item than is shown, he will have to see the film or the actual newspaper, for we cannot provide it.
This project was begun for our own pleasure, and if genealogists find a marriage cited for which they have been long searching to no avail, or former Houghtonites learn a bit more about the conditions which controlled the traveling patterns of their ancestors, we are happy to share these pages.

If you have a scanner and a program that will read the file and put into a text format (comes with some scanners), would you be willing to help get some of the issues of this project online? The transcripts of these newspapers goes up to 1917. Your help will be appreciated very much by other researchers.
If you are willing and able to help with this project contact me please.
Dick and June photocopied many obituaries from the Mining Gazette. While doing these they not only copied Cornish but other names as well. If you want to do a quick check for your surname use the search engine. If you would like to read through them click on the letters below.
If you have Cornish ancestors, a great place to start your search is at the Cornwall GenWeb Site which has information for research, links, queries, and online data.
