DEATHS 1904 March 1 Tuesday- The funeral of the late Mrs Otto WOLF took place Sunday and the burial was at Forest Hill cemetery. She leaves her husband. 1904 March 1 Tuesday- Timothy HANLEY, aged 67 years, for more than 40 years a resident and miner, died at his home in Menard on Saturday night. He died of pneumonia. He was an employee at the Franklin mine for many years. The funeral will take place this morning from St Patrick's church, Hancock. Burial will be at the old Hancock Catholic cemetery. He was survived by six children- John; Thomas and Peter Hanley and the Misses Mary; Ann and Lizzie HANLEY. 1904 March 1 Tuesday-John MITCHELL, aged 74 years, of North Tamarack, was found dead in his chair at his home on Saturday evening. He died of heart failure. She had been a resident of the copper country for 25 years, he was born CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of John MITCHELL and Sarah BARTLE. His wife died several years ago and is buried in the Eagle Harbor cemetery, Keweenaw County. Four children are left to mourn his loss- Mrs William GREGG; Miss Elizabeth MITCHELL and John MITCHELL, all of Tamarack and Capt Richard MITCHELL of the Osceola mine. The funeral services will be held this afternoon from the Tamarack Methodist church. Burial will be at the Lake View cemetery, Calumet. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 1 Tuesday- Andrew ENGELS and Paul PRIMEAU of Tamarack, left yesterday for Bisbee, Arizona where they will be employed. DEATHS 1904 March 1 Tuesday- John GREAHEK, aged 50 years, died yesterday at the home of his brother in Calumet. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 March 2 Wednesday- Michael HARRINGTON, aged 64 years, of Raymbaultown, died at his home Monday evening after an illness of two days. He died of paralysis of the brain. He worked for the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company in Calumet for 26 years. He was born in Cork, Ireland and came to this country at the age of 24 years. He is survived by his wife and eight children- Mrs William KEOUGH; Mrs Michael KEOUGH; Mrs Thomas HEIMES; Misses Margaret and Jessie HARRINGTON; Messrs Cornelius and Patrick HARRINGTON, all of Calumet; also Timothy who lives in California. The funeral will be Thursday morning from Sacred Heart Catholic church. Burial will be in the Hecla cemetery. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 2 Wednesday- George KRAUSE, left Lake Linden yesterday for Anaconda, Montana, where he has accepted a position with the Anaconda Mining company. 1904 March 2 Wednesday- Oliver MURPHY left Calumet yesterday for Butte, Montana where he will be employed . 1904 March 3- Joseph ANTESS; John YELLAND , George ALLEN, and Sidney WILLS all of Trimountain will leave soon to visit in their birthplace, CORNWALL, ENGLAND. NEWS ITEMS 1904 March 3 Thursday- Mr and Mrs Pat GAFFNEY and family of Hancock, left yesterday for Portland, Oregon, where they will make their future home. Their two sons have been in Oregon for the past year and have located extensive tracts of timberland from which they expect to cut 40,000,00 feet of timber. 1904 March 4 Friday- John SKEWES of Painesdale left Tuesday afternoon for Central City, Colorado where a position awaits him. DEATHS 1904 March 5 Saturday- Mrs Elizabeth PUGH, aged 84 years, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Thomas HARRIS of Osceola, due to bronchitis. She was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of Joseph PAYNTER and Mary CARTER. She is a widow and survived by several children. The funeral service will be held Sunday from the HARRIS residence. The burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Calumet. She had been a resident of the copper country since 1869. She is survived by four daughters- Mrs Thomas HARRIS of Osceola; Mrs Edith TREZISE of Salt Lake City Utah; Mrs John HILL and Mrs John REED, both of Calumet. 1904 March 6 Sunday- Charles MOORE, an aged resident of Eagle River, Keweenaw County, died Friday evening at the County poor house. The funeral was held Monday, with internment at the Eagle Ricer cemetery. MARRIAGE 1904 March 8 Tuesday- Ed ANDERSON, foreman of newsroom of the Mining Gazette of Houghton married Miss Charlotte BONEN of Iron Mountain, in that city Saturday night. They will live in Houghton. DEATH 1904 March 8 Tuesday- Mrs John ENG, aged 34 years, residing at the Quincy mine, died Sunday morning at her home. She is survived by her husband and four children. The funeral will take place this afternoon at the Hancock Swedish Lutheran church. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. MARRIAGE 1904 March 8 Tu9sday- Frank SENGLAUB married Miss Grisilda GRAY of Lake Linden, at the home of the groom's brother, Henry SENGLAUB, of Lake Linden, on Saturday evening. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 8 Tuesday- William MATTHEWS of Calumet has resigned his position with the Calumet and Hecla band and has gone to New York to join the band of the Barmum and Bailey circus. MARRIAGE 1904 March 9 Wednesday- Nelson STRATTON married Miss Bertha NANCARROW, at the home of the bride's parents in Atlantic, on Saturday night. They have taken up residence at Franklin Junior mine area, where the groom is the superintendent of schools. DEATHS 1904 March 9 Wednesday- The funeral of the late John KESULA of Oskar who died Monday, took place yesterday at Oskar cemetery. He is survived by five children. 1904 March 9 Wednesday- Miss May SMITH, aged 24 years, the daughter of William SMITH of Calumet, died Monday in Toronto, Canada. She will be buried in Toronto. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 1 0 Thursday- John WALLACE of Painesdale recently received word from Bert MANN, a former resident of Painesdale, that he is now in PENZANCE, CORNWALL, ENGLAND and is not enjoying good health since his arrival in CORNWALL DEATH 1904 March 10 Thursday- John MURPHY, for the past 25 years a resident of Hancock, died yesterday morning at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock after a long illness. He had been employed the past 20 years at CLEAVE's foundry in Hancock. The funeral will take place tomorrow from St Patrick's church. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 10 Thursday- James FRAZER left Hancock yesterday for Portland, Oregon, where he will make his future home. DEATHS 1904 March 11 Friday- John BOWDEN, aged 62 years, a miner at the Quincy mine, died yesterday morning at St Joseph's hospital, after a long illness. He lived in Hancock and came here 10 years ago, first going to the Centennial mine before coming to Hancock. He was born In CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He is survived by a widow but no children. The funeral will take place at the Hancock Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 March 11 Friday- Mrs Otto ERICKSON, aged 35 years, died Wednesday night at her home in Redridge. She is survived by her husband but no children. The funeral will take place in Redridge. MARRIAGE 1904 March 11 Friday-William NARA married Miss Mary PIEHI, both of Calumet, last night at Bethlehem church, Hecla. The bridesmaids were Misses Ollie KOSTAMO; Elena HEUSA and Ida PIEHI and the groomsmen were Messrs Andrew MURTOMAKI; Andrew MOLLANEN and Isaac NARA, the latter a brother of the groom. They will live in Laurium. DEATHS 1904 March 11 Friday- Mrs Mary SWEENY, aged 88 years, died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs H. S. BEESLEY of Houghton. She came to Houghton County, with her husband, 60 years ago, and she has said that they and the family of the late Ransome SHELDEN were the first white settlers in this part of the county. They lived many years at Lake Linden and of late years in Houghton. Mr SWEENY died three years ago at the age of 90 years. The funeral will take place tomorrow from St Ignatius Catholic Church, Houghton. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. She is survived by 7 children- Nelson; Henry; Louis and George SWEENY; Mrs BEESLEY; Mrs Salome CARPENTER and Miss Lizzie SWEENY, all of Houghton County. 1904 March 12 Saturday- Mrs Annie HALTALA, aged 40 years, wife of Jacob HALTALA of the Mohawk mine location, died Thursday. She is survived by her husband and six children. The funeral will be Monday afternoon at the church in Mohawk and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DEATH 1904 March 12 Saturday- Matt HYTTINEN , aged 23 years, died yesterday morning at his home at the Kearsarge.mine. He is survived by a wife. The funeral services will be held tomorrow at the Kearsarge Finnish church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. Arizona to join her husband, who has located there. 1904 March 12 Saturday -Oscar GRANK arrived in Calumet from Finland and will make his home in the copper country. He is a brother of Mrs Arthur HEIDEMAN. DEATHS 1904 March 13 Sunday- Bozo CHOPP, aged 42 years, died Friday night at his home in Calumet of pneumonia. He is survived by his wife. The funeral will be today from the Calumet Austrian church and burial will be at Lake View cemetery. He had been a resident of Calumet for 15 years and conducted a saloon business most of that time. 1904 March 13 Sunday- Joseph DOBBS of Tamarack received word yesterday of the death of Mrs Bessie JAMES, wife of Thomas JAMES of Elm River, had died Friday noon. She was born in CORNALL, ENGLAND, the daughter of John BARILLA. She was a former resident of Tamarack and leaves her husband. 1904 March 13 Sunday- Casper SCHELLMAN died at the home of daughter, Mrs Anna AHOLA in Calumet, yesterday morning. He is survived by three children. The funeral was from St Joseph's Austrian church yesterday, burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 March 15 Tuesday- William SYMONS, aged 56 years, died of pneumonia Sunday afternoon at his residence in Kearsarge. He is survived by a wife and three children who reside in Kearsarge. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of William SYMONS and Elizabeth SYMONS. He had been a resident of the copper country for three years. The funeral services will be held this afternoon from the Kearsarge Methodist church. Burial will be at the Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 March 15 Tuesday- Frank LARVENCHICH, the miner who was injured in an accident at the No 5 shaft at the Calumet and Hecla mine on Friday, died yesterday morning at the Calumet and Hecla hospital, Calumet. He leaves a wife but no children. The funeral will be tomorrow at St Joseph's Austriarn church. Burial will be Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 March 15 Tuesday- John C. PETERSON, aged 27 years, died Saturday night at his home at the Mohawk mine location. He is survived by a wife and two children. The funeral will be held today at the Norwegian Lutheran church, Calumet and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. DEATH 1904 March 15 Tuesday- Theodore THENO, of Hubbell, aged 82 years, died yesterday at his home. He was born in Germany and had been a resident of the copper country for many years. Four children survive him- Frank and a daughter, Mrs Patrick BRESNAHON live in Hurontown; Henry THENO lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Mrs Martin LENZ lives at Hubbell. The funeral will be tomorrow from St Cecelia's church, Lake Linden and burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 15 Tuesday- Matt HIRSCH, who resigned his position with the Houghton County Electric Light company, leaves today for Douglass, Arizona, where he has secured a position. MARRIAGES 1904 March 15 Tuesday- Leonard JUNTISKO of Florida mine location married Miss Sandra MICKELSON Saturday evening in Calumet. 1904 March 16 Wednesday- Henry HELSER married Mrs Bertha HOCKING yesterday afternoon at the home of the bride in Houghton. Mrs May HOSKING was the bridesmaid and Andrew BURKE was the best man. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 16 Wednesday- John RUTTER of Atlantic mine will leave next month for a visit to his old home in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. He will be gone all summer. DEATH 1904 March 16 Wednesday- Charles HAWKE, aged 26 years, unmarried, who was well known in Phoenix, Keweenaw County and Calumet, died Saturday in Chicago, Illinois. He had been in Chicago studying at a barber school and had finished his course and was preparing to come back to Calumet, when he developed pneumonia and died. The remains arrived in Calumet yesterday and were met by his brother, George and cousins. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the Calumet Methodist church and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND and has two sisters living there. NEWS ITEM 1904 March 16 Wednesday- John VIVIAN, a miner of Calumet, left yesterday afternoon for Anaconda, Montana, where he will be employed. DEATHS 1904 March 17 Thursday- William H. RUTHERFORD, died yesterday morning at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock after a long bout with pneumonia. He had been a resident of Hancock for many years and was manager of LORD's dairy for a long time, though recently he was employed at the Quincy mine. He is survived by a wife and a child. The funeral will take place from the residence of A. W. LORD in Hancock. Burial will be at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1904 March 17 Thursday- Matt KARINAINEN, died yesterday at his home in Hancock. The burial was at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1904 March 18 Friday- Jacob KANGAS of Raymbaultown, died Wednesday evening of internal troubles. He leaves a wife only. DEATHS 1904 March 19 Saturday- Mike ADAM and George MAIRLE, the two victims in the accident in the No 3 shaft at the Hecla mine, were killed last Wednesday afternoon in the mine accident. The funeral was a double one, with burials at Lake Side cemetery, Calumet. The funerals were held at St Joseph's Austrian church, Calumet. Mr ADAM and is survived by a wife and eight children. He had been a resident of Calumet the last 18 years, when he came from Austria. Mr MAIRLE, is survived by a wife only. He had been in Calumet a few years. The father was a Wesleyan preacher for many years. He is survived by a wife and four children, two in America- Alfred of Hurontown and Mrs George SMITH of Iron Mountain, Michigan also two children in CORNWALL. 1904 March 20 Sunday- John HAMMALA, aged 28 years, single, died at his home in Calumet Friday night after a brief illness. He had lived in Calumet, the last 15 years. The services will be held from the Finnish Lutheran church, Calumet and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1904 March 20 Sunday- Joseph CURTO married Miss Martrno JENERINO last night at the Whiting mine shaft in Red Jacket. DEATHS 1904 March 20 Sunday- Miss Annie HAWLEY of Laurium, aged 19 years, died yesterday morning at the Calumet and Hecla hospital of appendicitis. She made her home with her parents, Mr and Mrs Steve HAWLEY of Laurium. The funeral will be held Tuesday at St Anne's church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 March 20 Sunday-Henry GITZEN, the well known cigar maker, died Friday morning at his home in Houghton. The funeral will take place tomorrow at St Ignatius church, Houghton. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. He lived with is parents in Houghton, as he was single. 1904 March 22 Tuesday- The funeral services for Erick MATSON, who was killed last week near Pembine, Wisconsin, were held yesterday afternoon at the Calumet Swedish Methodist church. Burial was at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. 1904 March 23- MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED BY HOUGHTON COUNTY CLERK Zenas LAKE and Maggie WILLETT, both of Sidnaw. DEATHS 1904 March 23 Wednesday- John LARSON was killed yesterday afternoon by a fall of rock at No 5 shaft of the Calumet and Hecla mine. He lived in Laurium and was married. The funeral will be Sunday at the Calumet Methodist Swedish church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He is survived by a wife and two children. 1904 March 24 Thursday- Mrs Salome GRAKA, of Atlantic mine location, said to be 106 years, died Tuesday night. 1904 March 24 Thursday- William RICHARDS, aged 65 years, died at his home in Hecla. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of Samuel RICHARDS and Eliza OATEY. He was a timber boss at the Calumet and Hecla mine. He lived in Hecla for a number of years. His wife and three sons survive- Samuel, a trammer at the Calumet and Hecla mine; John, who works in the mine and William who is employed at the Trimountain mine. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery. 1904 March 24 Thursday-Albert BARRY, aged 28 years, died at the home of his father, Arthur BARRY at Houghton, Tuesday morning. He had spent his whole life in Houghton. The funeral will take place this morning from the house. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. MARRIAGE 1904 March 25 Friday- Herman ROSSBERG, Jr., married Miss Katherine A. CORNISH yesterday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents in Hancock. The bridesmaid was Miss Laura CORNISH, the bride's sister and the best man was Julius ROSSBERG, the groom's brother. They will live at Keweenaw County Bay, where the groom works at the Mass mill. DEATH 1904 March 25 Friday- Mrs Mary WINTERS of the Baltic mine location, died at the Northern Michigan General hospital on Wednesday evening. The body was taken home yesterday for internment in the Atlantic mine cemetery today and the funeral will be today. . She leaves a husband and one child. MARRIAGE 1904 March 25 Friday- Rev R. L. HEWSON married Mrs Annie A. WILMES of Tamarack, at high noon yesterday at the Tamarack Methodist church. The bride was supported by Miss Lottie HEWSON, daughter of the groom and the best man was George KEAST, a brother of the bride. DEATH 1904 March 27 Sunday- The funeral services for the late John BELL, who died Friday morning at his home in North Tamarack mine location, will be at the Tamarack Methodist church this afternoon. He was born 1883 April 26 at Pewabic, Houghton county. He worked as an oiler at the No 3 engine house of the Tamarack mine. A mother; three sisters and two brothers are left to mourn him. DEATHS 1904 April 3 Sunday- Joseph SELLER, aged 48 years, for many years a resident of Hancock, died Friday afternoon at St Joseph's hospital after a short illness of pneumonia. He is survived by a wife and a number of children. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning from St Joseph's church, Hancock. Burial will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 April 3 Sunday- Captain John WEALTON, aged 60 years, died last night at his home in Hancock , after an illness of two days. He had been actively connected with the mining industry in the upper peninsula for many years. He is survived by one son, Neil. 1904 April 5 Tuesday- Captain William WILLS, aged 52 years, died yesterday morning at his home in Laurium, of cancer of the stomach. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, 1852 January 11, the son of John WI LLS and Eliza HICKS. In 1868 he came to America and settled at Bruce Mines, Canada, where he spent a few months and then came to the copper country and the iron country ever since. Prior to 1897 he prospected in Marquette County and located the Fitch mine that since was operational there. He worked for a time at the Calumet and Hecla mine, but his poor health made him resign. He invested in the Calumet and Arizona mine and, the returns enabled him to take life easy when he retired. He is survived by his wife and 4 children- Mrs John VICKER of Laurium; Mrs George BICE of Ishpemlng, Marquette County; Edward of Laurium and Charles of Bisbee, Arizona. The funeral will be at the Laurium Methodist church tomorrow and burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1904 April 6 Wednesday- Christ MESSNER married Miss Isabel SABOURIN on Monday morning at St Mary's church, Atlantic mine location. She was raised in Eagle River, Keweenaw County. She is survived by her parents, Mr and Mrs SEIGHMAN. DEATH 1904 April 7 Thursday- John ANDERSON, aged 58 years, carpenter at the Quincy mine, died early yesterday morning at St Joseph's hospital, Hancock of tuberculosis. He was born in Sweden and lived in Hancock 20 years. Four weeks ago his wife died. He leaves 4 children and since there are no relatives to care for them, the Swedish people in the area will care for them. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from the Hancock Swedish Lutheran church. Burial will be at the Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. The funeral services were held at St Joseph's church, Hancock. 1904 April 9 Saturday- Matt COPLISH, aged about 35 years, a miner at the South Kearsarge mine, was caught between a skip and the side of a shaft, being instantly killed on Thursday afternoon. He had a wife and two children living in Austria. The funeral services will be Sunday at St John's Croation church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGE 1904 April 9 Saturday- Announcement of the marriage of Miss Gertrude GULLBAULT to C. PEMBROKE TUCKER have been received by Lake friends of the bride. The wedding took place on April 8 at Pueblo, Colorado. DEATH 1904 April 10 Sunday- Daniel HOLLAND, one of the pioneer residents of Calumet, died Friday at his home in Hecla of cancer. He is survived by a wife and 4 children. The funeral services will be held Monday morning from Sacred Heart Catholic church, Calumet. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. He had been in the employ of the Calumet and Hecla mine for the last 37 years. He is said to have been one of the two men to blast a hole in the present Calumet and Hecla mine. DEATH 1904 April 12 Tuesday- George Washington HEGEMAN, died at his daughter's home in Laurium, Mrs A. Lincoln SHEAR Saturday night of pneumonia. His wife is too ill to accompany the remains to Hudson, New York for burial. His son-in-law Rev A. Lincoln SHEAR, performed the sad duty alone. The family have been residents of Calumet for many years. DEATHS 1904 April 13 Wednesday- Mrs Felix GRODIN died yesterday morning after a long illness of consumption ,at her Lake Linden home. She leaves a family and several children. 1904 April 14 Thursday- Mrs Ones BODIN, who died Tuesday, was one of the oldest residents of Lake Linden, having lived here for 30 years. She is survived by her husband and six children- Mrs F. J. GULBORD; Clara; Agnes and Blanche GODIN; George and Peter. The funeral will be held this morning from St Joseph's church, Lake Linden. Burial will be Mount Calvary cemetery, Lake LInden. 1904 April 14 Thursday- Frederick SHUTTE, aged 64 years, died yesterday at his home in Baltic after a long bout with pneumonia. He was a former resident of Quincy, where he was employed as a surface boss. He leaves a wife and 4 children. The funeral will be tomorrow from his home and burial will be at Lakeside cemetery, Hancock. 1904 April 14 Thursday- Edward LUTEY, aged 61 years, a sprinkler in the employ of the Calumet and Hecla Mining company, was killed in an accident at the eighteenth level, Tuesday night. He had been a resident of Calumet for a number of years. He was born in CORNWALL, ENGLAND, the son of William LUTEY and Margaret MURLEY. He is survived by a wife and six children. The funeral will be held at the home, the same as in CORNWALL, ENGLAND. A choir will sing outside the home. The remains will be taken to the Calumet Methodist church Saturday afternoon. Burial will be at lake View cemetery, Calumet. His father, William LUTEY arrived from Germain, Pennsylvania for the funeral. MARRIAGE 1904 April 14 Thursday- Martin CIAGNE married Miss Angeline GEDDA Thursday morning at the Calumet Italian church. DEATH 1904 April 17 Sunday- The funeral of Miss Mary ZAGAR, who died suddenly in the Calumet Mineral Range Railroad depot, will be held this morning at the Calumet Austrian church. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. She has no relatives in the upper peninsula. She had a brother, a priest but he died in Marquette and is buried in the Catholic cemetery there. DEATHS 1904 April 17 Sunday- Herman GARLING, aged 82 years, one of the oldest residents of Rockland, Ontonagon county, died at his home Friday night. He was born in Holland and he and his wife immigrated to America and took up their residence in Rockland in 1865. His wife, aged 93 years, is left to mourn his death. He will be buried in Rockland. 1904 April 19 Tuesday- Mr and Mrs Charles H. SMITH of Laurium, left yesterday for Palms, Michigan, in Southern Michigan, to attend the funeral of Mr SMITH's brother-in-law, Halsey THAYER, who died Saturday in Duluth, Minnesota and the body was taken to Palms. 1904 April 19 Tuesday- The funeral service of Albion HERSTROM, who was killed Saturday night by a Wolverine Railroad car near the Blue Jacket switch, will be held this afternoon at the Calumet Swedish Methodist church. He had been an employee of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company for a great many years. He leaves a wife and eight children. Burial will be at Lake View cemetery, Calumet. MARRIAGES 1904 April 20 Wednesday-Reginald MEEKS of New York married Miss Gweneth Worthington WILSON, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. WILSON, at their home in Lake Linden on Monday evening. The bridesmaid was Miss Gladys WILSON, the bride's sister and the best man was the groom's brother, Claude M. MEEKS of New York. DEATH 1904 April 27 Wednesday-Edward BURKMAN, aged 66 years, a pioneer resident of Calumet, died yesterday at his home of stomach trouble. He is survived by his wife, three sons (not named) and one daughter- Mrs Robert NELL of Laurium. He was born in 1838 in Sweden and in 1868 came to America. He has been a resident of Calumet since 1874. He had been a deliveryman for a great number of years. The funeral will be Friday from the Calumet Swedish church. DEATH 1904 April 29 Friday- Mrs John SORA , aged 33 years, died Wednesday at her home in Allouez, Keweenaw County, she is survived by her husband and two children. N EWS ITEMS 1904 April 29 Friday- Thomas IVY, who had been employed in BARQUIST and THOMAS barber shop, left yesterday afternoon for Spokane, Washington. He will enter the employ of Paddy FLYNN who had a shop in Calumet. 1904 April 29 Friday- Albert LAHTI of Centennial Heights; John WUORI and Eric LAMPELA, both of Florida mine location and J. WAARA of the South Range with their families, have been selected by the United States Government to take care of a herd of 6000 reindeer near Yukon, Alaska. They will leave this morning to begin their duties. The reindeer were bought from the Soviet Union by the United States government. DEATHS 1904 April 30 Saturday- Mrs Margaret SULLIVAN, aged 74 years, an old resident of Hurontown, died at her home on Thursday evening. She is survived by three daughters- Mrs James CASEY of Hancock; Mrs William KLINGHAMMER and Mrs Margaret SULLIVAN, both of Hurontown also two sons- Patrick and Cornelius, both of Butte, Montana. The funeral will take place tomorrow at St Ignatius church, Houghton and burial at Forest Hill cemetery, Houghton. 1904 April 30 Saturday- Frank PICHONEN, aged 24 years, single, a miner, was instantly killed in the Baltic mine by a fall of rock on Thursday. His mother and one brother, living in the Atlantic mine area, survive him. The funeral will take place this afternoon and burial will be at the Atlantic cemetery. NEWS ITEM 1904 April 30 Saturday- Sakris HENDERSON; Erick RANTA and John KOSKITALO left Calumet yesterday for Brimley, Michigan, near Sault St Marie.
